The government has allocated a sum of Rs. 342 billion for road development projects through the 2026 budget, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated.

The economic crisis in Sri Lanka led to the suspension of numerous road development projects, resulting in various complications, however measures have been taken to resolve these issues and recommence the implementation of those projects, President Dissanayake said while delivering the 2026 Budget proposals.

Accordingly, a decision has also been taken to allocate funds for the construction of the Kadawatha-Mirigama section of the Central Expressway, among the expressways that were currently on hold.

Through the budget, a sum of Rs. 66,150 million has been allocated for the construction of the Kadawatha-Mirigama expressway section.

Furthermore, a total of Rs. 10,500 million has been allocated for the construction of the Pothuhera-Rambukkana section of the central expressway.

Additionally, a sum of Rs. 20,000 million has been allocated for the construction of the Rambukkana-Galagedara section through the 2026 Budget.

Furthermore, the necessary feasibility studies for the widening of the Katugastota-Galagedara road section are scheduled to commence next year.

According to the President, provisions have been made through the budget to widen and upgrade several access roads leading into Kandy city.
