(UPDATE): A woman has died while two others have sustained injuries in an accident reported in Karamada, Gelioya this afternoon (12).
The accident took place when a private bus traveling from Nuwara Eliya to Colombo, reportedly at high speed, collided with a parked three-wheeler, crashed into a nearby house and struck the shop belonging to the deceased woman at around 1:00 p.m., police stated.
The deceased has been identified as a 35-year-old resident of Karamada.
At the time of the incident, her six-year-old daughter, who was also at the location, sustained injuries and has been admitted to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.
The driver of the three-wheeler was seriously injured and admitted to the Peradeniya Hospital as well, while the three-wheeler sustained severe damage, police noted.
The driver of the bus has been taken into police custody.
The Traffic Division of the Peradeniya Police is conducting further investigations into the incident.
