The Ministry of Education has announced revised school calendar for government and government-approved private schools.
Accordingly, Sinhala and Tamil schools will remain closed for December holidays from today (23) until January 4, 2026.
Muslim schools will be closed for December holidays from December 27 to January 4, 2026.
Issuing a statement, the Ministry of Education stated that all schools are scheduled to commence the first phase of the first term of the 2026 academic year on Monday, January 5, 2026.
Accordingly, the first term of the 2026 academic year will be implemented in line with the circular issued on December 9, 2025.
Additionally, the second and third terms of the 2026 academic year will be implemented according to the school term schedule – 2026 Circular No. 30/2025 dated November 9, 2025.
The Ministry also noted that there will be no changes to the dates of school examinations announced by the Department of Examinations previously.
Accordingly, the 2025 academic year for Sinhala and Tamil schools concluded yesterday (22), while Muslim schools are scheduled to conclude the 2025 academic year on Friday, December 26, 2025.
