The two generators undergoing maintenance at the Norochcholai Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant are scheduled to be reconnected to the national power grid on January 14 and January 18, 2026, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has confirmed.

According to the statement, Unit 2 is currently in the final stage of maintenance and all preparations are being made to reconnect it to the national power grid on January 14 following the scheduled testing procedures.

Meanwhile, Unit 1 was taken offline on December 20 due to an unexpected fault in its boiler.

Maintenance work to rectify the fault is being carried out intensively, and the CEB said it expects to reconnect the unit to the national power grid by around January 18, 2026.

However, the CEB said that there has been no disruption to the supply of electricity as hydropower generation is continuing without any disruption.
