“Mutual respect, religious coexistence, and peaceful unity are eternal treasures of our country”- Opposition Leader’s Maha Shivaratri message

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa extended his greetings to Hindu devotees in Sri Lanka and around the world on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri. 

He described the festival as a spiritual journey of seeking light from within darkness, highlighting it as a noble night that guides individuals to overcome injustice, ignorance, and arrogance while purifying the mind through worship, devotion, and meditation.

 He noted that Lord Shiva represents the creation of innovation through destruction, reminding people that in the face of life’s challenges, they must rise with self-confidence for a new beginning.

Premadasa emphasized that Maha Shivaratri underscores the values of truth, justice, and compassion as the fundamental foundation of life. He said the festival reinforces that truth triumphs over injustice, unity is stronger than distrust, and light is more powerful than darkness.

He urged citizens to believe in building a stronger future, rooted in mutual respect, religious coexistence, and peaceful unity. 

He concluded by wishing that the light kindled in people’s hearts spreads throughout the country, paving the way for a Sri Lanka filled with peace, harmony, and prosperity.

“It is a pleasure to send a message of greetings to all Hindu brothers and sisters living in Sri Lanka and around the world on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri.

Maha Shivaratri is a spiritual journey of seeking light from within darkness. It can be described as a noble night that guides us to control injustice, ignorance, and arrogance while purifying the mind through worship, devotion, and meditation. Lord Shiva represents the creation of innovation through destruction. Therefore, Maha Shivaratri reminds us that in the face of life’s challenges, we must rise with self-confidence for a new beginning without retreating.
