I will divulge the names of those involved in match fixing at the right time, if necessary even to the ICC, Hashan Thilakarathne expressed today (May 03) making a statement at the Western Provincial Council.

There are attempts to silence me, but because I love Sri Lanka cricket I will go ahead and reveal the names involved in match fixing, the former cricketer said.

In a statement issued today Thilakarathne explains that, he had made these statements neither to gain any political mileage nor to put anyone in an awkward position. And only to “protect the game and players we all love so much.”

Be it the selection of the teams or the result of the game, spot fixing could emerge and the happenings in the last year or so in the global stage is an example, the statement reads. “Therefore it is extremely crucial to have individuals with unquestionable reputation running our sport.”

“I believe for the sport to be clean, those who are administering it should be transparent.”

The former Sri Lanka Test cricket captain further points out several matters that have caused controversy in recent times.

1.    The squad for the ICC World Cup was name done day prior to the auction of the IPL tournament. At that point the semi-finals and final of the Inter-Provincial Tournament in Sri Lanka weren’t over.

2.    There have been allegations in recent times that in selecting players to the national squad some officials have received bribes and they continue to hold responsible positions in the cricket administration.

3.    Those with direct contacts with the betting industry and those with family contacts in the betting industry have been given top positions in the cricket administration.

4.    A top official against whom there have been allegations in awarding country’s cricket television rights is occupying a top position in the current administration.

5.    The administrators and politicians of the country having close links with with an individual who has been charged with several wrongdoings in India.
