Suspect in Lasantha murder granted bail

The Colombo High Court today (July 11) granted bail to the suspect currently in remand in connection to the murder of former Sunday Leader editor, Lasantha Wickramatunga.
The suspect has been kept in remand for more than one and a half years, the defendant’s attorney had stated at court presenting bail application on behalf of the suspect.
The attorney had requested that he be released on bail as he (the suspect) is still serving in the Sri Lanka Army.
The government attorney had stated that he would not object to the bail plea.
Therefore the suspect in question was ordered released on a cash bail of Rs. 75,000 and a personal bail of Rs. 100,000 by Colombo High Court Judge P.P. Surasena.
