A group led by Minister Mervyn Silva today (September 19) carried out a sudden inspection of a ‘carelessly operated’ sugar storage at Pethiyagoda, Kelaniya which allegedly stores unhealthy sugar, Ada Derana reporter stated.
The Minister of Public Relations and Public Affairs, who acted on information received by him in the morning today, had traveled to the location accompanied by several Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha members.
Minister Silva had pointed out that the sugar of the storage, supplied to a confectionery manufacturer and several retailers in the area, was of poor quality and unhygienic.
Ada Derana reporter further stated that the outspoken Minister, who had called on Public Health Inspectors (PHIs), had instructed them to take legal action against the ownership of the stores.
