The government continues to making various statements on various occasions, says the United National Party. The government said one thing during the war, another after it ended, one statement during the election and another after the election, UNP spokesman Gayantha Karunathilaka stated today.

“During the war the government asked the public to make sacrifices and that it is no time for concessions.”

The government promised salary hikes, to reduce the cost of living and concessions after the war is over, he stated.

When these promises were made the people imagined that the government would create something similar to “Aladdin’s Lamp,” which could grant whatever one wishes for, he said at a press brieifng.
 
Giving an example for the contradictory statements made by the government, Gayantha mentioned that while prior to the election the government had promised not to increase fuel prices, on two occasions just two weeks after two phases of the election fuel prices were increased.

The Parliamentarian went on to say that by observing the activities of the government “it is right to say that the only thing this government is not doing is governing the state.”

Gayantha Karunathilaka further said that at a time when the prices of various commodities are being increased, the cost of living is high and the public is burdened, the government with a delegation of around 250 has flown abroad to win a bid to host a Commonwealth Games.

“The government has wasted Rs. 100 million for this bid alone” he claimed.
