Bird Flu rearing its head in Kurunegala?

A rooster with symptoms similar to bird-flu was found dead in a chicken farm in Bingiriya, Kurunegala after the Livestock and Animal Production Department was called in to investigate the sudden death of a number of chickens, the Health Ministry stated.

 

A special discussion was held yesterday regarding the situation on the orders of Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena with the attendance of the Ministry Additional Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala.

 

Hospitals in Bingiriya, Chilaw and Hettipola have been informed about the situation while two special medical teams have been deployed to investigate the matter.

 

Although the dead rooster displayed symptoms of bird-flu, initial tests have not been able to confirm that it in fact the epidemic.
