Bus strike called off

Private bus operators have decided to call off the strike after discussions with the authorities, the Lanka Private Bus Operators’ Association (LPBOA) stated.
President of the Lanka Private Bus Operators’ Association Gemunu Wjeyratne said the strike action was suspended due to authorities agreeing to a bus fare hike.
It was agreed during discussion held with authorities today evening that the minimum fare will be increased to Rs.9 and that bus fares in general will be increased by 20 per cent, he said.
The bus fare revision is common to both private and SLTB (Sri Lanka Transport Board) buses, as fares in the latter will also be increased by 20 per cent.
