A Mihin Lanka flight bound for Malaysia has made an emergency landing at the Katunayake airport after a fire had erupted in the cargo hold area of the plane. No details of damages have been reported yet, according to Government Information Department.
However, Mihin Lanka denied reports that a fire had erupted on a Malaysia-bound flight.
Rohan Perera Head of Commercial at Mihin Lanka, speaking to Ada Derana, stated that a flight bound to Jakarta, which took off at 7.20am today had grounded at the Katunayake airport again one hour later “due to the pilot suspecting a fire in the cargo hold.”
However, he added, it has now been revealed that a fire had not erupted within the plane and engineers are inspecting to determine the technical fault.
