The CID today informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court that MP Duminda Silva, a suspect in the Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra murder trial, is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Singapore and is to undergo another surgery.

The CID stated that a statement was recorded from Duminda Silva’s father regarding the matter, and according to the statement he has been receiving treatment at the at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore since November 11, 2011.

Duminda Silva’s skull has sustained fractures and several surgeries were performed as a result of this, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said adding he is to undergo another surgery next month.

The CID is putting off the arrest of Duminda Silva, the attorney appearing on behalf of the relatives of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra stated in court, and therefore requested that a warrant be issued for his arrest.

Raising objections to this the CID stated that a warrant is not necessary to arrest suspect Duminda Silva, as he can be taken into custody even without a warrant.

Declaring that a warrant is not necessary for suspect’s arrest, Additional Magistrate Prasanna De Alwis postponed the case to April 27.
