The shooting incident that killed two persons at Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna rally in Katuwana earlier today is suspected to be an internal dispute among two JVP groups, says the Media Center for National Security.

Police and military operations are being carried out in order to apprehend the suspect responcible for the shooting, Director General of MCNS Laxman Hulugalla stated. 

Two persons including a female were killed when a group of individuals on motorbikes had opened fire at a JVP rally at Katuwana, Hambantota.

One person was injured from the incident and hospitalized.

JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake claimed “a group of thugs of the government” had forcefully entered premises of the rally, participated by a JVP Provincial Councilor, and opened fire.
