The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) stated that certain areas in the country had experienced power cuts without prior warning today, however it has now been stopped.
It said that a special committee has been appointed to identify areas to impose power cuts and that the CEB is to issue the power cut schedule by this evening.
All measures are underway to restore the two affected power stations while there will not be any uninformed power cuts, the Ministry stated.
The CEB had announced yesterday that due to a break-down at Lakwijaya and Kerawalapitiya power plants, power cuts will be imposed from Monday in certain areas for two hours to carry out repair work.
Three hundred MWs of power generated from the Kerawalapitiya power plant and 100MWs from the Lakwijaya power plant have been temporally stopped.
The CEB has decided to impose two hour power cuts in certain areas until operations at the power plants return to normality or hydro power generation is increased to 25-30 percent.
