GMOA threaten strike if lecturers get ‘special’ treatment

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) today said they oppose a certain section of state employees being considered special and afforded a salary increase.

The salaries of government employees should be increased according to the National Wage Policy, GMOA Spokesman Dr. Navin de Soysa.

Apart from that no section employed by the state should be provided with a special wage hike, he said hinting at the demands of striking university lecturers.

Dr. Soysa further warned that if the government in any manner does increase the wages of state employees in violation of the 2006/6 circular, the Government Medical Officers’ Association has decided to launch trade union action.
