The Frontline Socialists Party (FSP) today said it opposes the government’s attempt to revise the existing rule which requires police to produce a person arrested before a Magistrate within 24 hours.
Justice Minister Hakeem on Thursday (11) had presented the Code of Criminal Procedure (Special Provision) Bill in order extend from 24 hours to 48 hours the period of detention of persons arrested without a warrant, before being produced before a Magistrate.
In a statement issued the FSP alleged that permission is being sought to detain suspects for 24 hours instead of 48 hours in order to provide police with time make false accusations and systematically create evidence against them.
Reports state that the Code of Criminal Procedure (Special Provision) Bill is to be taken up for debate on October 24.
