Two held for illegally transporting explosives

Two persons were arrested after police halted a lorry transporting explosives without a permit in the Batu-Oya area in Minneriya.

The vehicle in question was taken into custody following information received by the Minneriya Police regarding the illegal transporting of explosives.

Police discovered 50 kilograms of ammonium nitrogen, water gel, around 200 detonators, 4 steel rods, 25 welding rods and a holder, upon inspecting the vehicle.

 The suspects were released on bail after being produced at the Hingurakgoda Magistrate’s Court. However they were ordered to appear before the court on October 26.
