The government members selected for the Parliament Select Committee appointed to probe allegations against the Chief Justice should be reduced from seven to six, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake stated.

The UNP will meet will the Speaker of Parliament to discuss this issue today (November 9) he further stated.

Yesterday, the governing party announced the names of seven MPs selected for the PSC which leaves the opposition with only four remaining spots for the 11-member committee.

Attanayake stated that the composition of the PSC was not balanced and that the UNP will not oppose the PSC if the opposition were allowed to appoint five members to it.

The Chief Opposition Whip MP John Amaratunga and a delegation of opposition MPs will meet with the Speaker of Parliament Chamal Rajapaksa later today in order to discuss the composition of the PSC.

Attanayake added that if the opposition is not allowed to appoint five members to the PSC it will then take a decision on whether or not to appoint any members to the committee.
