The country will lose around Rs. 1,600 million in revenue if 10 racing cars are imported next year as claimed by Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe said today.

That money can be allocated for education if there is no money to improve the country’s education sector, he said.

Wickramasinghe charged that funds allocated for education is continuously being curtailed by the government while tax concessions have been afforded to bring down racing cars.

Speaking to media following a meeting between representatives the United National Party (UNP) and the Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA) at the Colombo Mayor’s official residence today, the UNP leader stated that the meeting was organized discuss ideas and proposals on issues in the education sector and steps needed to resolve them.

Wickramasinghe added that the FUTA President had said he trusts President Rajapaksa and Minister Basil Rajapaksa, and that they would keep to their promises.
