The petitions against the Parliamentary Select Committee appointed to probe the impeachment charges against the Chief Justice is in violation of the parliamentary privileges of the MPs, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva told the Parliament Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa today (November 29).
He stated that the PSC was appointed in accordance with the constitution and the Parliament standing orders.
The Minister said that therefore it was a violation of parliamentary privileges to appeal to the court against the PSC.
Meanwhile, the hearing of the petition filed against the Parliamentary Select Committee looking into impeachment charges against the Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake has been postponed until November 30.
The petition which was filed at the Appeals court and was taken up by the Supreme Court yesterday(November 28) claims that according to natural law the PSC cannot investigate impeachment charges against the Chief Justice.
The petition was taken to the Supreme Court as the petitions show that the Section 107 of the Constitution needed a full interpretation.
