The Appeals Court today issued notice on the respondents of the case filed by the Chief Justice challenging the findings of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) appointed to probe the impeachment charges against her.
Accordingly the respondents in the case: Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, the General Secretary of the Parliament and all members of the PSC were issued notice returnable on January 03.
The petition filed by Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake on Wednesday, through the law firm Neelakandan & Neelakandan, requested the Appellate Court to issue an interim injunction order barring the recommendations set forth by the PSC report from being enacted.
The court had stated today that barring the enacting of the recommendations of the PSC is suitable to maintain the harmony between the two establishments.
However, speaking on behalf of Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake, President’s Counsel Romesh De Silva stated that the parliamentary committee had not allowed for a fair investigation.
