
The Department of Meteorology today requested Naval and fishing communities to refrain from engaging in any maritime activities in the sea area off the coast from Matara to Pottuvil due to the low pressure are in the Bay of Bengal.
The low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal to the South East of Sri-Lanka still persists about 450km from Potuvil, the department said adding that under its influence, showery and windy weather will continue further over the island.
Heavy rainfall (more than 100mm) is also likely at certain areas in the Eastern, Central, Uva and Southern provinces and in the Pollonnaruwa District.
Showers or thundershowers accompanied by strong winds at times will continue in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Battacaloa to Galle via Hambantota and these sea areas will be rough, the Met. Department warned.
Therefore Naval and fishing communities are requested to refrain from their activities in the sea area off the coast from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
