Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe today accused the government of bringing in Russian prostitutes to country from one side and attempting to sack the Chief Justice from the other side.
Speaking during the United National Party’s (UNP) Membership Conferment Ceremony at ‘Sirikotha’ party headquarters, he stated that the Chief Justice can go to courts as that is her right.
However, Wickaramasinghe declared that the Rajapakse regime cannot be defeated by going to court, and that it can only be done by taking to the streets.
He stated that despite various accusations were hurled at the UNP for the manner in which it proceeded regarding the impeachment motion, in the end the Appeals Court has pointed out the same stance.
The Opposition Leader said he is not blaming the private media, however claimed that certain journalists “write about independence of the judiciary by day and stay with ministers by night”.
He also compared himself to a football, stating that the harder he is hit, the higher he goes.
