The Court of Appeals today issued a writ of certiorari quashing the report of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) appointed to probe charges in the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake.
The committee had found Bandaranayake guilty on three counts out of the 14 point charges, however the Supreme Court declared last week that the committee did not have authority to probe the chief justice.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Chandima Weerakkody stated that debate on the PSC report would take place on January 10 and 11.
The decision was arrived at despite the opposition walkout from the party leaders’ meeting today in protest over the government’s refusal to accept the Supreme Court’s determination on the impeachment.
