The Public Performance Board has approved the screening of Indian movie star Kamal Hassa’s new movie “Vishwaroopam” in Sri Lanka after editing two scenes from the controversial film.

Screening of the South Indian film in Sri Lanka was temporarily suspended by the government following a similar move in Tamil Nadu.

The high-budget espionage thriller was originally scheduled to release in Tamil and Telugu on Jan 25, but a day before the screenings, the Tamil Nadu government imposed a two-week ban on the film following protests from several Muslim groups objecting to the film’s portrayal of Islam.

Kamal Haasen later reached a settlement with Muslim organizations in southern India to cut a few scenes that were pointed out as controversial.

“Any neutral and patriotic Muslim will surely feel pride on seeing my film. It was designed for that purpose.” Kamal, 58, described on the ban

Vishwaroopam was also initially banned in places such as Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Malayasia.

Written, produced and directed by Kamal, features him in the title role. Other members of the cast include Pooja Kumar, Andrea Jeremiah, Rahul Bose, Shekhar Kapur and Jaideep Ahlawat.

The film has received a tremendous response in states where it has been released and has earned favorable reviews from film critics.

The film has been made in the Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages.

It had been cleared by India’s Censor Board before the Muslim groups raised objections to some scenes prompting the Tamil Nadu government’s ban.
