
Four cyclists were injured and admitted to the Puttalam Hospital following an accident during the Air Force Cycle Tour 2013.
The accident occurred this evening in the Puttalam town just before the participants finished the 2nd leg of the race, Ada Derana reporter said.
The first leg of the annual tour was flagged off from AFHQ Colombo by the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal HD Abeywickrama yesterday and ended in Sigiriya.
The second leg commenced from Sigiriya and was to end in Puttalam. However, it was reported that moments before the cyclists reached the finishing line, one participant had collided with another.
Several cyclists with minor injurioes were treated on the spot while four were admitted to the Puttalam Hospital.
A total of 126 cyclists from 13 clubs were flagged off and cyclists from Jaffna and Trincomalee were also participating in the race.
The first leg was won by Sudeera Nilanga (Police), with Kumara Abeysinghe (AF), Nadeeshan Silva (SLN) finishing second and third respectively.
