
Six navy personnel who were injured during a weapons training at Kayts Island this morning have been admitted to the Jaffna Hospital, police spokesman SP Buddhika Siriwardena said.
Sri Lanka Navy, however, said only 3 persons were hospitalized and that they had suffered minor injuries.
Navy spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya refuted reports claiming an explosion had occurred and stated that the injuries were caused only due to a weapon “backfiring”.
A group was receiving weapons training at the Velanai navy camp when an RPG had reportedly backfired at around 11.30am today injuring six persons.
