Election of officials to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has been postponed to April 16, sources within the Ministry of Sports told Ada Derana.
Sources say that the reason for the postponement was due to objections being filed against certain candidates who have handed over nominations for top posts in the cricket board.
Therefore, the objections have been forwarded to the Attorney General to obtain his advice regarding the legal status of this issue, sources said, adding the SLC election will be held after a report is received.
It has been reported that Upali Dharmadasa, incumbent president of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has failed to obtain Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage’s written approval, which was required as he had not played at least first class cricket.
Meanwhile, the candidature of Thilanga Sumapthipala for the same post was under scrutiny following objections raised by three major cricket clubs.
