Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commission in Chennai today said it is prepared to provide security to any Sri Lankan national visiting Tamil Nadu, in the wake recent attacks on Buddhist monks and pilgrims in South India.
Those planning to visit Tamil Nadu may contact the Sri Lankan deputy mission in Chennai on 00914428241896/00914428252612 prior to departure from Sri Lanka, acting Deputy High Commissioner Amir Ajwad said.
The High Commission has also instructed the Maha Bodhi Society in Egmore, Chennai to inform of anyone arriving from Sri Lanka on pilgrimage, he told Ada Derana.
Several incidents of attacks on Sri Lankan nationals and establishments in India had been reported while a Sri Lankan monk, who was a researcher of archaeology, came under attack in Tanjavu, Tamil Nadu last week.
On Monday (18) another monk and a group of pilgrims were attacked at the Chennai central station.
Mr Ajwad said Chennai Police has launched a special investigation into yesterday’s attack, taking into account the footage shot by a private TV station.
