Minister of Culture and the Arts, T.B. Ekanayake says that certain artists in the country are opportunists and that they are even attempting to sell the lands given to them by the government.
He said that they were given houses from the Moratuwa Soysapura Housing Scheme and property in Kalapura with freehold deeds and that now information has been reported that 3 such properties are being sold.
The minister stated that the artists were not charged a cent for the freehold land deeds, which they are attempting to sell.
It is better to implement relief programmes targeting the artists in rural areas instead of artists in the city as it is the former who have no one to lend them a hand, Ekanayake said addressing an event in Abanpola.
