Police state that investigations are still being conducted concerning former CMC member Azath Salley who was admitted once again to the Colombo National Hospital after refusing to consume any food or medicine.
He is currently being treated in ward 45 of the Colombo National Hospital, Police Media Spokesman SP Buddhika Siriwardena stated.
Defence sources claim that Azath Salley had made anti-Sri Lankan statements to the Indian media including remarks that could stir racial tensions. Furthermore, he is accused of attempting to incite violence between racial groups in Sri Lanka.
However, different sources say that Salley’s comments were reported out of context and have since been corrected by the relevant media.
Financial fraud is also among 18 allegations leveled against Salley according to the Director General of the Media Centre for National Security, Lakshman Hulugalla.
Opposition members fiercely claim that the arrest of Salley is a blatant act of political vengeance but Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratna stated in parliament yesterday (May 7) that the Prevention of Terrorism Act will not be used for political reasons.
