The Puttalam District court has issued a warrant on the Puttalam Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman, Nimal Bamunuarachchi after he failed to present himself at courts over the repossession of a lorry which was seized by the Forest Conservation Department.
The incident occurred on the Puttalam-Kurunegala railway crossing on March 2, 2010.
The Forest Conservation officials had arrested a suspect and seized the lorry with regards to illegal sand mining while the PS Chairman is accused along with another suspect of assaulting the officials and seizing the lorry.
When the case was taken up the second suspect was present while the PS Chairman had not presented himself.
The court ordered police to arrest the Chairman and present him to courts when the case is taken up again on September 11.
