Customs officials have inspected a container shipment said to have been imported by the slain businessman Mohamed Siyam.
The container had arrived from India in May and steps were taken to open it yesterday as no one had come forward to release it for a period of two months, Customs Director Mali Piyasena said.
He stated that around 10,000 pairs of shoes were found inside the container and that investigations are ongoing.
However, the container is registered to the name of a an individual from Colombo, who says it was imported by Mohamed Siyam, who was abducted and murdered in the Dompe area on May 22.
The CID has arrested former DIG Vaas Gunawardena, Sub-Inspector Lakmini Bamunusinghe, attached to the office of the DIG Western Province (North), along with three Police Constables (PCs) serving in the DIG’s special unit over the murder.
