The Chilaw police have begun investigations into an incident where a woman was robbed of her gold jewellery worth Rs.180,000 by two persons who claimed to be from the CID.
The victim along with her husband had visited a patient at the Chilaw hospital after which her husband had left the hospital leaving her alone. During this time the two suspects who claimed to be from the CID had escorted her into a trishaw and had robbed her jewellery.
The victim stated that the men had asked her to place her jewellery in her bag because they suspected her to be carrying a bomb after which they had then inspected.
The men had then dropped her off along with her bag after which she had realized that the jewellery was missing. However, she told police that she did not see them taking the jewellery out of her bag.
The Chilaw police have not uncovered who the crime was committed by while further investigations are being conducted.
