UPDATE: Bus fares to be increased by 10% by Sep 1

The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association (LPBOA) stated that it will increase bus fares by 10% from September 1.
President of the LPBOA, Gemunu Wijeyratne stated that the fares will be increased at a press conference held today (August 12) in Colombo.
The minimum bus fare of Rs.9 will be increased to Rs.10 following the price revision while the maximum fee of Rs. 662 will be increased to Rs.728.
Wijeyratene said that the LPBOA had on numerous occasions requested the National Transport Commission to approve the bus fare hike but the commission did not listen.
He added that the LPBOA issued a letter to the NTC requesting the fare increase on August 8 but received no reply and would therefore advertise the price revision through the media.
