A labourer has climbed a tree in protest near the Dambulla bus stand claiming that he had not been paid for the masonry work he had completed on a building owned by the Deputy Mayor of Dambulla.

The man began his protest this morning (September 12) against the Dambulla Deputy Mayor, Kusumsiri Ariyaratne who he claims has not paid him a sum of Rs.93,000 for masonry work he had completed on a commercial building owned by Ariyaratne.

He stated that despite having reported this to the Galewela police and the SLFP head office, justice had not been delivered.

However, the Deputy Mayor told Ada Derana that this was a political conspiracy against him while stating that a sum of Rs.2 lakhs had been paid to the labourer for the commissioned work.

He admitted that a sum of Rs.25,000 still had to be paid to the labourer but the arrears had not been settled due to the fact that the labourer had not completed his work satisfactorily.
