Prisons Department focused on arms procurement

The Prisons Department has turned its attention on to arms procurement after a spokesman stated that most of the firearms in use were in a non-operational state.
The Department stated that even the rubber bullets were not in a usable state.
A spokesman for the Prisons Department added that Bogambara Prison had around 27 firearms in its possession but only three of them were in operational condition.
The spokesman stated that due to this situation, it was important for the Prisons Department to purchase the necessary firearms while adding that several letters had already been sent to the Defence Ministry regarding this.
