Adaikalanathan to quit TELO leadership; TNA internal rift worsens

TNA Vanni District parliamentarian Selvam Adaikalanathan has decided to resign from the leadership of the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO), a constituent party of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA).

It is reported that he will tender his resignation to the party’s General Secretary within 2-3 days.

It is said that Adaikalanathan had hoped to obtain a ministerial portfolio in the newly elected Northern Provincial Council for TELO in the Vanni District, however under the present situation the TNA has proposed to provide it to M. K. Shivajilingam, a former Jaffna District MP.

Hence Adaikalanathan has said that he would resign as the leader of TELO because he is unable to serve the people of Vanni.

Meanwhile the decision for C.V. Vigneswaran to takes oaths as the Chief Minister of the Northern Province before President Mahinda Rajapaksa has created a rift within the Tamil National Alliance.

Following a meeting this morning between TNA leader R. Sampanthan and President Rajapaksa it was announced that Vigneswaran would take oaths before the President on October 7 at Temple Trees.

A group of TNA MPs have expressed disapproval that party leader R. Sampanthan, MP M. A. Sumanthiran and Vigneswaran himself have reached a unanimous decision that the retired judge should be sworn in before the President.

It is reported that TNA parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran has also expressed his displeasure over the decision, worsening an already existing internal dispute in the main Tamil party, following the Provincial polls in the North.

Another TNA top runger, Mavai Senathirajah yesterday left the country for India amidst this situation.
