The United National Party today alleged that the clash which occurred during a protest in Matara on Saturday was unnecessarily created due to a certain group carrying out a “government contract.”

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake charged that no arrests have been made in connection to the attack on UNP supporters demonstrating, in support of the UNP leader, in Devinuwara and accused the police of acting in a biased manner regarding the incident.

He stated that justice should be meted to both sides involved in the incident and that it cannot be covered up by only arresting 24 UNP activists.

He stated that while everyone is talking about disputes and clashes within the UNP, the government is preparing to bring a “casino bill” tomorrow.

Attanayake stated that the government is terming it a “multi-entertainment project” and that casino, prostitution and illicit drug businesses are listed under it.

“What has the Jathika Hela Urumaya got to say about this?” he questioned.

He inquired whether this can be called the best pathway to turning Sri Lanka into a “Dharma Rajya” or whether the government is attracting tourism by protecting the country’s culture.

The government says that such multi-entertainment projects are essential for the promotion of tourism, he said, adding that the government has reached a policy decision to sell anyone in order to earn money for the country.
