3 dead, 5 injured as van crashes into parked lorry

Three including an infant were killed and another 5 persons were injured after a van had collided with a parked lorry at Karuwalagaswewa on the Puttalam-Anuradhapura road this morning, hospital sources confirmed.
Police said a group from Madampe, on their way to Anuradhapura on pilgrimage, was involved in the accident and that several of the injured are in critical condition.
One of the deceased was killed on the spot while the other two succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Puttalam Hospital.
An eight-month-old infant is among the deceased, a spokesman for the hospital said.
