The government’s newest concept of governance is the city, casino, underworld and brothel, UNP Media Spokesman MP Gayantha Karunathilaka stated.

Certain people in the government who talk about ethics are now preparing to gamble at casinos, he said while addressing a press briefing in Colombo today (October 30).

Karunathilaka stated that the government was willing to do anything to make money and that after the casino trade, prostitution and the underworld will be developed while he also criticized the government’s over emphasis on the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) instead of addressing the genuine problems of the public.

However, citing the Canadian Prime Minister’s announcement that he will not attend CHOGM, the MP said that the government must work to improve Sri Lanka’s image in the eyes of the international community.

He likened President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government to a crab and while elaborating on his analogy he claimed that the government leaders were walking sideways while asking the small man to walk straight.

Continuing his criticism of the government, the UNP spokesman said that students who were being educated under the free education system were selling lottery tickets while fishermen had yet to receive fuel concessions.
