The National Transport Commission says that 18 private luxury buses will be granted permission to operate on the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway (CKE).

The bus fare for traveling on Luxury Buses will be Rs 125 while Super Luxury Buses will charge Rs 180 per person, the Chairman of the NTC, Roshan Gunawardane said.

Sri Lanka’s second expressway, linking the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake and the capital Colombo, allows motorists to travel to the island’s capital in 20 minutes from the airport instead of the regular two hours duration in the past.

It was ceremonially declared open by the President on October 27.

The toll fee for cars, cabs, jeeps, and small vans using the CKE from Peliyagoda to Katunayake is Rs 300 while the total toll fees for lorries and buses is Rs 600.

The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) commenced Luxury Bus Services on the Expressway from Monday (October 28).

Fares from Colombo to Ja Ela will be Rs 100 per person while Colombo to Katunayake and Negombo will be Rs 130 and Rs 150 respectively, SLTB said.
