Three Thai nationals have been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake while attempting to smuggle a consignment of hashish worth approximately Rs. 51 million into the country.   

The suspects were arrested by officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) at the airport earlier today (15).

The arrested individuals are three Thai nationals aged 22, 22 and 33, who are reportedly drivers by profession, Ada Derana reporter said.

They had arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport at around 12.30 a.m. today onboard Thai Airways flight TG 307 from Bangkok, Thailand.

A total of 5 kilograms and 96 grams of hashish had been concealed inside containers of cosmetic products packed in three pieces of luggage they were carrying.

The three suspects and the seized consignment of hashish are scheduled to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today for further investigations.
