The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory for severe lightning in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, North Central, Uva and North Western provinces, and the districts of Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya and Mannar.
The advisory, issued at 11.00 a.m. today (16), will remain in effect until 1.00 a.m. tomorrow (17).
Accordingly, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, North Central, Uva and North Western provinces, and the districts of Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya and Mannar.
There may be temporary, localised strong winds during thundershowers, it said.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by lightning.
