Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that steps will be taken to introduce new curricula for Grades 2 and 6 next year.
She made this announcement while attending the Badulla District Women’s Conference today (18).
Speaking further, the Prime Minister said a new curriculum had been introduced for Grade 1 this year, while new curricula for Grades 2 and 6 were planned to be introduced over the next two years.
She stated that the present government had developed a new education system aimed at securing the future of all children.
The government’s primary objective is to nurture a generation capable of facing future challenges successfully and with confidence, rather than producing students who focus solely on examinations, she emphasised.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister said interviews for the recruitment of 17,000 teachers would commence on November 20, 2026.
She also revealed that approval had been granted to recruit 2,000 academic staff members to the university system, with the recruitment process currently under way.
The government plans to recruit approximately 30,000 new teachers across the education system by February next year, she said.
In addition, a special programme will be implemented to develop infrastructure facilities in schools, the Prime Minister added.
