The Speaker of House Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne today (19) endorsed the certificate on the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill, officially enacting it as the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Act, No. 25 of 2026, the Department of Communication of Parliament announced.
The Bill was presented to Parliament for its First Reading on August 19, 2026, by the Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education. The Second Reading debate was held on October 8, following which the Bill was passed with amendments without a division.
The newly enacted legislation aims to address legal, interpretative, administrative and technical issues identified in the implementation of the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 9 of 2023.
It also seeks to resolve inconsistencies between the Sinhala and English texts of the existing Act, address challenges in the investigation and prosecution of corruption offences, and improve the administrative functions of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
Furthermore, the amendments seek to streamline the submission of declarations of assets and liabilities through a centralized electronic system.
According to the Department of Communication of Parliament, the amendments are expected to strengthen Sri Lanka’s legal and institutional framework for combating corruption and promote the effective, transparent and accountable implementation of the law.
With Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne’s endorsement of the certificate, the Bill has formally become the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Act, No. 25 of 2026.
