Former Minister Udaya Gammanpila has filed a writ petition with the Court of Appeal challenging a court order prohibiting protests in the Colombo Fort area.

The petition seeks a writ order preventing the implementation of an order issued recently by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court, which barred demonstrations in the area that were staged against the removal of the robe of Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, who is serving a prison sentence, and demanding that he be granted a pardon.

The respondents named in the petition are the Officer-in-Charge of the Fort Police, the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General and the Colombo Fort Magistrate, Ada Derana reporter said.
