Sri Lanka have been fined five per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during the opening match of the Pakistan ODI Tri-Series in Rawalpindi on Sunday.
Jeff Crowe of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Sri Lanka were ruled to be one over short of the required rate, after time allowances were taken into consideration.
Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, according to a statement issued by the ICC.
Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time.
The charges against Sri Lanka were levelled by on-field umpires Asif Yaqoob and Wayne Knights, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi.
Meanwhile, hosts Pakistan were fined 10 per cent of their match fee after being found to be two overs short of the required rate in the same match. Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi also pleaded guilty and accepted the proposed sanction.
Both penalties were imposed following the opening fixture of the tri-series, with the match officials taking the applicable time allowances into account when determining the over-rate offences, the ICC said.
