Power cuts will be continued across Sri Lanka today (20) due to the shutdown of the Lakvijaya Power Plant in Norochcholai.

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) stated yesterday (19) that approval had been granted following a request by the National System Operator (NSO).

Accordingly, power cuts are scheduled to take place for one hour between 4.30 p.m. and 9.00 p.m., with all areas of the country divided into four zones.

However, hospitals and locations providing essential services will be exempt from the power cuts.

All three generating units at the Lakvijaya Power Plant in Norochcholai are currently out of operation following the islandwide power outage that occurred last Saturday.

Accordingly, to manage the electricity supply, the National System Operator decided yesterday to impose daily one-hour power cuts.

Power cuts were also imposed across the country yesterday. Chief Executive Officer of the National System Operator, Buddhika Samarasekara, stated that the same measure would be necessary today and tomorrow (21).
